Experiment

Post by gcar90 on Wed Apr 30, 2014 4:42 pm

I have an idea for an experiment with a side thread, but let me run it by you all to see what you think.
It would require a lot of time, patience, and commitment on my part, and absolute trust and non-argument on you guys' part.

I write a story, come up with characters, and you guys control the characters and use those characters to interact with each other. I do not control any character in the story, my role in the thread would be simply narrator. Once in awhile, I would stop all in character action, post different characters in the same story, have you all pick which ones you want to do, and continue on from there.

I do have a few questions, before beginning the experiment, Kronus, since you are super into the idea.
How comfortable are you in your manhood?
Would you be open to the possibility of playing a character that's a girl?
When writing, I either write what I know or write what I want to see.
In this case, I'm writing what I know. As a result, the story is very heavy with women characters.

Re: Experiment

Post by gcar90 on Wed Apr 30, 2014 7:10 pm

I think I'm going to do something like, post descriptions of some characters in a scene, post a brief description of what the scene is about, then when I stop you to change scenes and/or characters, I'll post the original scene as it is already written.  As players controlling the characters you are free to do what you want, based on the character bios.  The original scene will be a surprise.  I will not hold anything, personally, against you if what you play out is not what is written.

Oh, and some characters may appear in more than one scene of the story, and you don't have be stuck with the same character if they appear in later on scenes.  Like if Ebil is playing the main character in one scene and that same character appears in a later scene, Ebil is allowed to switch and Kronus is allowed to play that character later, if he so chooses, and the other way around.

Characters in the story so far...

Lucinda Rayne
Female
13
Lucinda is a shy, quiet, but quirky, pre-teen girl, starting her first year at a new school.  She has to deal with the awkwardness of meeting and dealing with new people at this new school, as well as deal with issues at home that she would prefer to keep private. Lucinda takes pleasure in simple things and finds satisfaction in things she has, rather than the new useless junk her mother tries to spoil her with.  She has high intelligence, mixed with a creative streak.  As hopeless as a situation is, she can find her own joy and pleasure in it.  Her quirks are her happy means of being herself and expressing that without harming anybody.  Lucinda's constant state is awkward teenaged logic with a go with the flow mentality in hopes that she can maintain a peaceful life of coexistence.

Cheryl Rayne
Female
40
Cheryl is Lucinda's mother.  On the surface, she's devoted to her daughter, constantly protecting and spoiling her daughter.  Oftentimes, Cheryl will focus only on her wants and needs, ignoring her daughter's common sense logic and complaints.  In an instance where Lucinda simply forgets or accidentally breaks something, Cheryl would severely scold her daughter and force guilt upon the child until whatever is wrong is made right, again.  Cheryl cannot manage finances and will often spend bill money on useless junk or things for herself and her daughter, leaving utilities to often be cut off as a consequence.  When a utility is cut off, Cheryl will take to her bed in a fit of depression.  She can get very grouchy and mean when disturbed in a fit of depression.  Cheryl is pure illogic and chaos, the opposite of her daughter's common sense and peaceful manner.

Thomas Rayne
Male
39
Thomas is Lucinda's father.  He is disabled and does not live with Lucinda and her mother, currently.  When Lucinda was younger, he would physically abuse Lucinda and her mother.  At one point, the fighting was so bad, he went to jail.  After he went to jail, he left the family.

Libby Chandler
Female
13
Libby Chandler is the social queen of the school.  Her father is the principal and she uses her status and influence to make others miserable.  Her best tools for destruction are Rumors, Lies, and Gossip.  Nobody dares to cross this pre-pubescent princess.  Her best friends are Rebecca and Rachel.

Rebecca
Female
12
Rebecca is one of Libby's best friends.  She follows Libby's orders, spying on enemies, spreading lies, gossip, and rumors.  She doesn't like it when Libby bullies nice people, but she's too scared to confront Libby about it.  She doesn't want to be by herself, facing Libby's wrath.

Rachel
Female
12
Rachel is a friend of Libby.  She goes along with Libby's schemes because it's better than being bored.  However, when Libby's bullying becomes too dogmatic, it alarms her, making her want to avoid Libby, rather than be her friend.  Rachel, like Rebecca, doesn't want to turn against Libby all by herself, or else face Libby's wrath.  She is a closer friend to Rebecca, than Libby.  If Rebecca were to decide to move away from Libby, Rachel would join her.

Michelle Bowen
Female
35
Michelle is the school counselor.  Her job is to be fair and talk to students about, possible, problematic behavior, to try and turn that behavior around, before there is a need for disciplinary action.

Mr. Chandler
Male
40
Mr. Chandler is Libby's father and the school's principal.  His job is to be fail, follow school policy, and deal with students if they require disciplinary action.

Mrs. Liz Chandler
Female
37
Homemaker and socialite. Liz Chandler is mother to Libby and wife of Mr. Chandler. She's kind and sociable to all respectful people and children.

Mr. Carter
Male
35
Mr. Carter is a teacher and lunchroom monitor.  His job is to teach, listen to student complaints, report problems that need to be taken care of by either the principal or the school counselor.

Mr. C
Male
35
Mr. C is a teacher and school bus driver.  His job is to teach, take children from school to home, and make sure students follow the rules on how to behave.

Mr. Hansen
Male
40
Mr. Hansen is a teacher.  His job is to teach students and help them where they need it.

Mr. Lewis
Male
45
Mr. Lewis is a teacher.  His job is to teach and help students where they need it.

Max Spencer
Female
14
Max is a tough girl with a short temper.  Whereas Libby can make it so you have no friends in life, Max can make it so you have no life, period.  She will use any excuse to physically fight you.

Mrs. Spencer
Female
40
Mrs. Spencer is Max's mother.  She is a tough mother for a tough child, but has a dose of common sense.  If her daughter wasn't justified in doing something, she'll take the other person's side in an argument and discipline her daughter over it in her own way.

Mrs. Parker
45
Mother to Rebecca.  Member of PTA (Parent/Teacher Association)  Good lady.

Mrs. Walker
50
Computer lab teacher.  All business when you first meet her.  She makes sure the kids taking computer class belongs there.  If you belong in computer class, Mrs. Walker warms up and takes on a laid back jolly personality.

Other various teachers
Any gender
35-40
Other teachers are to teach and help where needed.

I am not used to females, but I can try. It might happen that I play something totally different than you wanted, for example Rene. basically everything you didn't specify is free to our imagination. you might imagine the counselor to be a coward while I imagine him to be brave, for example.

I would like to get ages for all the characters.
Also I am interested in Thomas' disability.
The Characters you described were nearly all "evil". What about the ones without explicit description, for example the teachers. shall they also be "evil" or shall they be a "good" counterpart?

And last but not least I'd like to ask if you are really comfortable with this story yourself. I have the feeling it might upset you.

I don't know . Who? How nice of you to pick up, exactly, who Libby is. The main story is at it's halfway mark

I've already figured that you might play the characters completely different than they originally were. I can accept that, while you are at play with them. As long as you are playing the character based on their exact bio, there is no wrong answer for how you play them. If it's not according to the original story, that's okay, you'll see what really happened in the original scene, when it's posted, and it's time for a scene change. There's a huge amount of trust going back and forth. I'm trusting you guys to play with characters near and dear to my heart, and you guys are trusting me to give you good characters and good set ups to play out. The longer the story goes on and you play with the characters in the story, the more you'll understand. I think it'd be something interesting for you to learn about and see from me, and I'm interested and curious to see what you would do with the characters.

Ages for characters.

Lucinda and Libby are 13
Rachel and Rebecca are 12
Max is 14
Miss Bowen is 35
Mr Chandler is 40
Mrs. Rayne and Mrs. Spencer are 40
The teachers' ages range from 35-45

Thomas' disability is schizophrenia.

I, Personally, don't see any of the characters as all evil or all bad. They're people, with thoughts, feelings, strengths, and weaknesses each their own. There is a different personality for each character.

I'm confident that the story itself is good. You guys are just playing the characters in it. I wouldn't have made the offer to let you guys play the characters if I didn't think I could handle it.

I know evil is the wrong word, hence the quotation marks. let's say they are characters that cause a dark and unpleasant mood. shall there also be characters that lighten the mood again?
That's what I actually meant with the question.

Re: Experiment

Post by gcar90 on Thu May 01, 2014 10:43 am

OOOH! There are indeed lighter points and moods to balance each scene and character. Some are quirky character traits that are there designed to alleviate tension, others involve having different characters around to counter tense moments before they get too high.

Lucinda's quirks are designed to be light, happy points, to off-set her loner, moody, dark points.

One actual scene in the original story is when Lucinda's mother decides to stop at a yard sale, to do some shopping, Lucinda decides to hang out in their car, reading a book, while she's reading that book she decides to stick her foot out of the car window to feel the outside breeze on the bottom of her foot.

Cheryl is happy and excited to look around the rummage sale.
Lucinda is annoyed at having to stop, but finds her own, quirky way to make the best of it.

All these characters are designed after people I know or have dealt with in real life. All I ask is that you have the courage to trust me and play in my world. I'll have the courage to guide you and trust you with characters I care deeply for. I'm actually very interested in this experiment.

I think, at the end of this thing, you guys might learn a little something about me and what makes me tick. While I would see how you guys would handle situations that come up in the story.

Speaking of Code Lyoko, remember how we were talking about adding the main five characters...and Sissi to Crossover in the last story? Wanna add them to this story?

I'm currently on Season 4 of my re-re-watching

Also I'm not sure yet. I'm worried I'll mess up the personality according to the bios you put down. OTL

Eh, I'm not in the mood for Code Lyoko or their characters.

As for the experiment.  If you mess up the bios and put your own personality in it, I won't be mad.  You'd be doing your own interpretation of what happened, and then I'd post what really happened, and then we go on from there with different characters and new scenes, until the story is done.

If you guys don't want to do it, that's fine.  I'll just continue working on the story, and maybe someday get it published, for reals.

I have to keep a neutral position regarding the experiment. I don't want to force actors to play, if they don't want to. I'd like it if they played, but if the play is forced, it won't be good or beautiful.

The only difference between Libby and Sissi aside from their ages is that Sissi actually has moments when she's nice and caring

Throughout the whole story, there's going to be an arc to Libby. She starts off as an Alpha bitch, but when more and more people confront her about her antics, the more her resolve will wear down, and her niceness will come out. When it gets close to the end of the story, Libby's going to have an epiphany and then regret the things she has done, but by then, it might be too late.

Libby's sort of turning into a complex character. At the beginning, she's young, stubborn, spoiled, used to people being afraid of her, and getting her own way. The more she goes on, she reaches a breaking point, that breaking point, makes her grow up, and gives her her heart.

You also have to take another thing into account. All the kids are young teens. No longer young children, but still years from being adults. Left on their own, they are still capable of being immature little brats, sometimes.
