Rene wasn't suspended, he just had detention and that wasn't a real physical fight. The fight in my story was physical.
A random girl choked the main character and the main character scratched her attacker to get away.
Based on a true story from my childhood. I really did claw a girl's arm, when she was choking me. I think, I drew blood. And Yes, I was actually suspended from school over it.

That's unfair

That's more than unfair.

it just reminded me of Rene, it wasn't the same.

I know. It was self defense, clearly, on my part.
But it was school policy for the school I was in at the time.
When two students are caught fighting, BOTH, students receive the same punishment, regardless of who was the aggressor and who was the defender.

So I wasn't the only one that got into trouble over it, she received the same punishment. But still, it sucked.

of cause. I see that children should learn to not fight back but call for help. that makes sense. but when someone is choking you, that's a different story.

How do you call for help when you don't have the breath to call for it?
It was gym class, too, the teachers were distracted with the sport that was being taught, so they didn't see who started it. Nobody else was calling for help. So I had two options, pass out or defend. I chose defend. It definitely got the teacher's attention when I bolted across the gym floor through the middle of the game being played and the other girl was standing there with a bloody arm, from my claw marks.

I should mention that I have always been a nail-biter, but if you get a good grip and angle your nails a certain way, you can still do some damage with chewed, mangled, nails.

At the time, I was in tears and very upset over getting in trouble for fighting and defending myself. But I quickly calmed down when even the other girl's mother stood up for me. It was self defense, plain and simple. No student ever choked, again, after that. They saw that I would defend myself.

I am glad it turned out well like that.

Come to think of it, the only other two people to choke me, besides that girl, were my mother and father. Dad had to put a little extra into his choke hold and ram my head into a wall, needless to say that both were really nasty arguments that got way out of hand.

I ate almost an entire lemon pepper rotisserie chicken for dinner.

I was hungry for roasted chicken and my dad got me a pre-cooked one at the store. All I had to do was put it in the oven for 20 minutes and eat.
